The Moonlight Horseback Ride is one of the most unique experiences on South Padre Island, offered only in the days before and during the full moon. As the sun fades, the moon takes over — silvering the surf, the sand, and the dunes for a quiet 90-minute ride along the beach.
This is a walk-only ride, so the pace stays calm and peaceful throughout. The only sounds are the surf and the soft footfall of the horses. It’s an experience that’s hard to put into words and almost impossible to find anywhere else on the Texas coast.
Because moonlight rides are tied to the lunar calendar, dates are limited and book up quickly. Reserve early to secure your spot. All skill levels welcome — our guides give a full briefing before mounting up at dusk.

Is the ride done in total darkness?
No — the ride is timed around the full moon so the beach, surf, and dunes are illuminated by moonlight. We mount up at dusk so your eyes adjust naturally as the light shifts.
Is this ride safe for beginners and kids?
Yes. The moonlight ride is walk-only and we provide a complete safety briefing. Riders age 6 and up are welcome and no prior experience is needed.
Why does the moonlight ride book up so quickly?
